PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Rufus Spheres is the centerpiece and gathering spot for a recently constructed corporate campus in downtown Seattle. Three intersecting glass and steel spheres enclose five freestanding floors, totaling 65,000 ft². The project had many unknowns but temperature, humidity control, and acoustics were of utmost concern. CMS provided Haakon custom air handling units to suit the project’s needs. Since many plants would inhabit the structure, these units had to incorporate staged direct-evaporative moisture control to provide tempered air to the space. Acoustically the space was challenging because the continual hard concave surface has the ability to reflect and concentrate noises in the building. Because of these attributes, the Haakon units were designed with Acoustiflo fans to provide a compact quiet design.
